The government has expanded its comprehensive programme aimed at reviving primary healthcare services across the country to include Raa Atoll. The initiative was officially inaugurated in Raa Atoll by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.
The primary healthcare programme is designed to provide equitable and accessible healthcare services to all communities, serving as the initial point of contact for individuals seeking medical care. The programme aims to ensure that essential health services are available to everyone, regardless of their location.
The programme has already been launched in five atolls across the country this year, according to the health ministry, with plans to expand to all atolls by the end of 2025. As part of the initiative, the ministry will collect medical records and histories of all citizens aged 18 and above to ascertain the current prevalence of general diseases. It will also compile data on healthcare expenditures incurred by the state for each individual.
The programme also features household visits by healthcare professionals, who will disseminate health awareness and information and offer support to individuals undergoing treatment for various illnesses. The team travelling to the atolls comprises technically skilled and experienced personnel from the healthcare sector, according to the ministry.
