This commendation was shared in a social media post by Speaker Abdulla on the occasion of national Fishermen’s Day, celebrated annually on 10 December.
In his post, Speaker Abdulla extended his felicitations to fishermen, their families, captains, and owners of fishing vessels, as well as all individuals engaged in the fishery sector. He highlighted the significance of their contributions and the vital role they play in the nation's economy.
President Dr Muizzu, in his message on Fishermen’s Day, lauded the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of fishermen, who endure diverse weather conditions and work around the clock on the high seas. He characterised their endeavours as a testament to their steadfast commitment and resilience.
Citing President Dr Muizzu's remarks, Speaker Abdulla conveyed his gratitude for the administration's initiatives to guarantee that fishermen receive payment within 48 hours of selling their catch.
Among the notable achievements of President Dr Muizzu’s administration are efforts to eliminate the backlog of outstanding payments owed to fishermen. The President has assured that his administration will continue to ensure timely payments and prevent any recurrence of payment delays.
