The Island Council of Huraa, Kaafu Atoll has recognised and praised President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for his administration's efforts to bring about development and progress to the island.
The president met with Huraa Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) as part of his ongoing tour to select islands of Kaafu and Alifu Alifu Atolls. The discussions centered around identifying the island's most pressing needs.
During the meeting, the council members commended the President for his bold decision to address the country's dollar shortage issue, by mandating resorts and guesthouses to exchange a portion of their dollar earnings at local banks. They further thanked the government for establishing a dollar ATM in the island, a long-awaited facility that alleviates challenges faced by the tourism-prosperous local residents and businesses. The council also highlighted the rapid progress of the island's harbor project and the implementation of the island's reclamation in line with the community's wishes.
The council also requested the introduction of scanning services at the island's health center, and asked to facilitate the opportunity for islands from each atoll to participate in the Gold Cup, a tournament featuring some football-enthusiastic islands. The needs of the island's school were also shared with the President.
At the meeting, the island's Women's Development Committee expressed concerns regarding budget constraints and requested opportunities to connect with WDCs of other islands to share their experiences.
Concluding the meeting, the President assured that he would consider the requests made by the council, and pledged to find agreeable solutions for the issues raised.
