Parliament Approves Insha as National Integrity Commission Member

Parliament on Monday approved the appointment of Mariyam Insha Faisal, as a member of the National Integrity Commission (NIC).

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu nominated Insha for the position and forwarded her nomination for Parliament approval on November 23, following the conclusion of NIC member Ahmed Jihadh's term.

During the parliament sitting on Monday, her nomination was unanimously approved with 58 lawmakers voting in favour.

Insha holds a law degree and had previously served on the Police Integrity Commission. After the commission was dissolved and replaced by the NIC in 2015, Insha became an investigator for the commission, a role she held until January this year. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree.

The NIC comprises five members, including the commission's President Gasim Abdul Kareem, Vice President Aishath Shiuna, Member Aminath Shadhiya and Member Shuaib Abdul Rahman.

The commission's primary responsibility is to investigate cases, allegations, or complaints related to law and order violations by law enforcement agencies and their employees.
