The Parliament on Monday approved the nomination of the former President of the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) Fuwad Thoufeeq as the new Ambassador of the Maldives to Thailand.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu nominated Fuwad as the Ambassador to Thailand, and forwarded his nomination for parliament approval on November 25. The decision to nominate Fuwad follows the expiration of his term of office at the ECM.
Fuwad’s nomination was unanimously approved during the parliament sitting on Monday with 58 lawmakers voting in favour.
Fuwad Thoufeeq has had a long and distinguished career with the ECM. He first joined the commission in 2008 as a member and was appointed as its President in 2009. He served in this capacity until March 2014, after which he resigned. In 2019, Fuwad returned to the commission and has since made significant contributions as its President, earning recognition for his leadership and efforts in overseeing transparent and successful electoral processes.
