The administration will prioritise developmental projects in the education and healthcare sectors next year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has revealed. He announced this during a meeting in Gaafaru, Kaafu Atoll, with members of the Gaafaru Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC).
The President's visit to Gaafaru was part of his ongoing two-day tour of several islands in the Alifu Alifu and Kaafu Atolls. During the meeting, Gaafaru Council members highlighted the most pressing concerns and developmental needs of their community. Enhancing healthcare services and urgently reclaiming land were key issues, as residents have not received new land plots for the past 18 years.
The council members also addressed the spatial constraints at the local school and the concerns of the fishing community. WDC members noted financial limitations and expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in the development of the handball court.
Cabinet ministers accompanying the President provided updates on the administration's efforts to address the challenges and concerns raised by the Island Council and WDC. They also elaborated on ongoing developmental projects on the island.
President Dr Muizzu stressed the importance of addressing the issues raised by the Gaafaru Island Council to ensure optimal outcomes. He also assured the residents of Gaafaru that he is committed to fulfilling his electoral promises.
The administration will give special attention to commencing developmental projects in the education and healthcare sectors in 2025, the president underscored. He also assured the Island Council and WDC members that the administration will execute these projects efficiently, preventing any delays or suspension.
