President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to building a dynamic and more inclusive South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), dedicated to fulfilling shared aspirations and promoting a brighter, prosperous future for the people of South Asia.
In his message on the occasion of the 40th SAARC Charter Day, President Muizzu extended greetings to the Secretary-General, the Secretariat, affiliated institutions of the SAARC, and the people of South Asia. He stated that SAARC, since its inception, has championed the cause of improving the lives of South Asians.
Furthermore, President Muizzu took note of the principles and values enshrined in the SAARC Charter, aimed at fostering peace and prosperity in the region. He called for reinvigorating the commitment to addressing critical issues such as climate change, public health, and economic inequality. He further emphasised the importance of prioritising sustainable development, innovation, resilient infrastructure, and connectivity.
The SAARC Charter Day is celebrated every year on December 8.
