Parliament reappoints Secretary General, Counsel General, and Sergeant at Arms

The Secretary General, Counsel General, and Sergeant at Arms of Parliament have resumed their posts for additional terms following Parliament's approval of their reappointments last week.

Under the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, each newly formed Parliament must appoint individuals to these positions by the end of the first two parliamentary terms, and the officeholders remain in place unless otherwise decided.

In line with this, Parliament unanimously approved the extension of the current officeholders' terms. Fathimath Niusha will continue as Secretary General, Fathimath Filza remains Counsel General, and Major (Rtd) Thalhath Hassan is reappointed as Sergeant at Arms. These positions carry a five-year term.

According to parliamentary rules, the Secretary General holds the highest authority after the Speaker and Vice-Speaker, with the Counsel General ranked second. These appointments ensure continued stability and effective leadership within Parliament.
