Gov't envisions to reduce number of children exposed to crime environment

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has revealed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's vision of reducing the number of children being exposed to crime environments. He made the remarks during a ceremony held to officiate the new logo of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ihusaan emphasised that the works being done by the Juvenile Justice Department is, currently, one of the most important works being done in the Maldives. He stated that the department is tasked with securing a bright and successful future for children, while ensuring that they do not have to go through the justice system. Highlighting that the department was not equipped with significant resources to perform tasks effectively, the minister revealed the government's aim of ensuring that the department is facilitated with all the necessary resources by the end of the tenure. Reflecting on the vision of President Dr. Muizzu to reduce the number of children, exposed to crime, environment Minister Ihusaan affirmed that the government is committed to ensuring this goal is accomplished.

The Department of Juvenile Justice was established under the Juvenile Justice Act, which was implemented since 2020. It aims to act in the welfare of the children in examining cases of children in conflict with the law and reintegrate such children in to the community.
