Gov't choses Nellaidhoo as first island for Waqf Project implementation

The government has decided to establish the first Waqf building within the atolls in Nellaidhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

A ceremony was held at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to sign an agreement related to the development of the Waqf building. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and President of Nellaidhoo Council Mohamed Aleef.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Dr. Shaheem reiterated President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to increase and expand Waqf projects, such that it benefits other sectors. He noted that the development of the Waqf building under the agreement will play a significant role in promoting Islamic practices.

Furthermore, Minister Dr. Shaheem stated that the ministry aims to establish Waqf buildings in other islands as well. He disclosed that Nellaidhoo was chosen as the first island for the initiative, as the island's council submitted one of the best proposals.

Under the initiative, ten outlets will be developed on the island, which will then be leased for works related to the fishing industry. The profit obtained by the facilities will be utilised to fund for the development of mosques on the island. Nellaidhoo Council stated that this project will also assist in promoting social and religious works on the island.
