"The Republic envisioned in the 20th century is coming to life"

Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has stated the dream of a republic envisioned by Maldivian citizens in the 20th century is becoming a reality today. He made the remarks during his address at the Republic Day celebrations.

Minister Adam Naseer noted that the people’s acceptance of a republic signifies that Maldivians have a stake and active participation in decision-making about the country and its future. This is what the people of the Maldives aspired to in the 20th century, he remarked.

Highlighting that actions are more significant than titles, the Minister emphasised that the realisation of this long-held dream is now unfolding. He attributed this progress to three main factors.

Firstly, he praised President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for openly sharing his vision for the country with its citizens and for the trust the people have placed in his leadership. Even prior to taking office, the President pledged to govern inclusively and to remain aligned with the will of the people, he noted.

Minister Adam Naseer underscored that those in power bear a crucial responsibility to serve the people with sincerity. "Today, I can confidently say that we are witnessing the realisation of the people’s 20th-century dream," he said.

The minister highlighted that the President is committed to fulfilling the promises made to the people. He further noted that work has already begun on a national development plan aimed at guiding the country’s progress over the next 20 years. The minister expressed the President has consistently emphasised his desire to incorporate the views of all Maldivians into this plan, encouraging broad participation to ensure the country’s future reflects the collective vision of its people.

Additionally, the President has decided to hold ten national ceremonies throughout the year, focused on the themes of sovereignty, security, and culture.
