President Muizzu officially reopens CHSE-Malé

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially reopened the Centre for Higher Secondary Education - Malé (CHSE-Malé), following extensive renovations. The reopening ceremony was marked by a special function attended by distinguished guests.

During the event, the President was presented with a commemorative memento symbolizing the school’s journey and legacy. He also participated in a forum led by five students, who shared their aspirations and discussed the hopes of the student body for the future of the nation.

In a speech last year, during the 45th anniversary celebrations of CHSE, the President had announced the Government’s commitment to resuming the provision of higher secondary education within Malé. The reopening of CHSE-Malé is a direct fulfilment of this promise. The President had also emphasized that the government would create additional opportunities for students wishing to pursue higher secondary education.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu expressed gratitude to the President on behalf of the education sector. He commended the President for recognising the challenges faced by students commuting between Malé and Hulhumalé and for offering a sustainable solution. Dr. Shafeeu further highlighted the Government’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities by increasing the number of students sitting for A-Level exams, with a target to raise the student population to 2,000.

CHSE-Malé reopened with an initial enrolment of 424 students. Originally established on July 3, 1979, as the Science Education Centre (SEC), the institution has played a pivotal role in the academic development of the nation.
