Ali Fazad appointed as Chairman of Supplementary Budget Committee

Parliamentarian Ali Fazad has been appointed as the Chairman of the Supplementary Budget Committee, with Parliamentarian Ahmed Saleem serving as Vice-Chairman.

The government presented a supplementary budget of USD 332 million to the Parliament. Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer submitted this budget to cover state expenses, detailing USD 97.3 million for recurrent costs and USD 227 million for capital expenditures.

Minister Zameer noted that the state budget approved by the previous administration was inadequate for implementing economic reforms. He emphasized that the current administration’s supplementary budget aligns with legal requirements and addresses upcoming projects and anticipated expenses.

The supplementary budget aims to support the vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration. Contributing factors for the increase include rising costs for medical consumables, expected higher spending on indirect subsidies, increased loans under the student loan scheme, and the need for uninterrupted funding for Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) projects, with USD 129.7 million allocated for these initiatives.
