President decides to reduce his salary by 50%

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to reduce his salary by 50%. The decision was made as part of the efforts to reduce the state-expenditures, in accordance with the economic reform agenda proposed as part of the 2025 national budget. The designated salary for the president is USD 6,485, according to the Constitution of the Maldives.

In addition to his salary cut, President Dr. Muizzu has previously taken measures to reduce state expenses, including flying economy class for official trips instead of first or business class. The president also provides transparency by providing details of the official trips through the President's Office.

Furthermore, he has recommended a 10% pay cut for salaries provided by the government, exempting civil servants.
