President Muizzu announces masterplan for AI in economic development

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on the recommendation of the Cabinet, has initiated the development of a masterplan focused on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for economic advancement, incorporating regional best practices. This plan will address risk management related to AI usage and establish a legal framework for AI technologies.

The decision was reached during the latest Cabinet meeting. Following the formulation of the masterplan, relevant documentation will be presented to the Cabinet by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, along with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

President Muizzu emphasized the importance of maximizing the economic benefits of AI while mitigating potential risks. The masterplan will include a comprehensive legal framework for the use of AI within the country, informed by practices from regional counterparts. The President's directive aims to create a robust strategy for integrating artificial intelligence into the Maldivian economy, ensuring responsible and beneficial implementation.
