Gov't aims to complete development of Vilimale' Hospital in 2 years

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has revealed the government's overarching goal of completing the development of Vilimale' Hospital within two years and provide services. The remarks were made by the minister during a ceremony held to sign agreements with China, marking the commencement of the hospital's tendering phase. The agreement was signed by Minister Dr. Muththalib and Ambassador of China to the Maldives Wang Lixin.

During the ceremony, Minister Dr. Muththalib stated that extensive discussions had been held with various hospitals, ministries, and relevant authorities regarding the project. The minister noted that the tendering phase is expected to conclude within six months, during which the hospital's design will be finalised, and practical works be contracted to a Chinese company following the bidding process. He expressed optimism that the hospital’s development would be completed within the two-year timeframe.

Furthermore, Minister Dr. Muththalib disclosed that information concerning hospital equipment, services, and other essential requirements have been collected, in collaboration with Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and the Ministry of Health. The new hospital being developed will have the capacity to accommodate 100 beds. The developmental project is fully funded by the Chinese government, following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's official visit to China.

Currently, Vilimale' Hospital has only five emergency beds and three treatment rooms, leading some residents to travel to Male' City for basic healthcare services. Vilimale' has a population of approximately 15,000 individuals.
