Since its launch on July 17, Immigration Watch has received 840 complaints regarding foreign nationals, primarily involving illegal trade activities.
According to Maldives Immigration, the platform has processed 596 motions and verified 70 cases in the past three months, with an additional 174 reports submitted that did not fall under the agency's jurisdiction. Reported cases include work visa violations, prostitution, black market currency exchanges, tourist visa violations, fraudulent documentation, drug-related issues, illegal trade, and missing persons.
Over 4,000 illegal immigrants have been deported in the 11 months since the current administration took office. Authorities are gathering information on immigrants residing in outlying islands, including resorts and industrial and agricultural zones, alongside operations in Male' City.
Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Shamman Waheed has reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing illegal immigration within the next three years and urged businesses to refrain from collaborating with illegal immigrants or harbouring individuals without proper documentation.
