Met Office warns of heavy rain, adverse weather across the country

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has warned of the formation of heavy rain clouds over the Maldives, predicting unfavorable weather conditions across various parts of the country.

The Met Office has stated that strong winds are expected, with Hulhule' experiencing gusts up to 58 mph during the morning hours of October 10. The average and maximum wind speeds recorded over the past 24 hours, from October 9 at 0000hrs to October 10 at 0000hrs, indicate that the strongest winds, reaching 55 mph, were recorded in Dharavandhoo, Baa Atoll. Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, followed with winds recorded at 47 mph.

The Met Office also warned that the western monsoon will intensify, leading to stronger winds during this period. A red alert has been issued for the northern regions and a white alert for the southern regions. Winds are expected to range between 25 and 30 mph from Haa Atoll to Vaavu Atoll, with gusts up to 50 mph in stormy conditions.

The Met Office also stated that heavy rain and thundershowers are forecasted from Meemu Atoll to Addu City, with winds between 19 and 24 mph and gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Rough seas are also anticipated during this period.
