President pledges to strengthen business ties between Maldives and India

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has vowed to enhance business relations between Maldivian and Indian entrepreneurs, reaffirming his commitment during a meeting with Maldivians residing in New Delhi. The event took place at the ICT Morea Hotel as part of the President's state visit to India.

During his address, President Muizzu highlighted the long-standing and close relationship between the Maldives and India, expressing optimism that his visit would further solidify ties that benefit both nations. He emphasised his administration's focus on enhancing areas of mutual cooperation, particularly in trade and economic exchange.

The President also stressed the importance of engaging with Maldivians abroad during his overseas trips, as it allows him to understand their challenges and explore ways to address their concerns. Acknowledging that a significant number of Maldivians travel to India for medical treatment, education, and business, he emphasised the vital role of India for many Maldivians.

In this context, President Muizzu underscored his intention to ensure that all Maldivians living or traveling abroad receive comprehensive support from the Maldives Foreign Ministry. He expressed his administration is committed to providing full assistance to Maldivians, no matter where they are.

Addressing the business community, the President noted that New Delhi is a frequent destination for Maldivian entrepreneurs, and he aims to further strengthen trade relations between the two countries. He expressed his vision of making New Delhi a key hub for trade, enhancing business exchanges in areas such as trade, tourism, and other sectors.

President Muizzu also held one-on-one meetings with Maldivians residing in New Delhi, inquiring about the specific assistance they required. He assured them that consular services would be streamlined through the Maldives Foreign Ministry and the Maldivian Consulate in New Delhi, to better address their needs.
