President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by First Lady Sajida Mohamed, has arrived in India for a state visit at the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu. The Maldivian delegation, which includes several Cabinet ministers, was warmly received at Palam Airport, New Delhi, by Indian government officials.
The official welcoming ceremony for the President and First Lady will take place tomorrow at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where they will be greeted by President Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following the ceremony, President Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi will hold formal discussions at Hyderabad House, during which both leaders will issue a joint statement and oversee the signing of several key agreements. These agreements will cover areas such as currency swap arrangements, anti-corruption measures, judicial cooperation, and sports development. Additionally, President Muizzu will inaugurate various joint projects, including the launch of the Indian RuPay card in the Maldives.
As part of the visit, the President will tour several major Indian cities, including New Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Business forums will be held in some cities to explore investment and trade opportunities between the two nations. President Muizzu is also scheduled to meet with Maldivians residing in India during his visit.
This marks President Muizzu’s second visit to India this year, following his attendance at Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in June. The current visit, which concludes on October 10, is expected to further strengthen the longstanding relations between the Maldives and India.
Ahead of the President’s arrival, the streets of New Delhi have been adorned with decorations, including flags of both countries and photos of President Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi, reflecting the warm and celebratory atmosphere surrounding this important state visit.
