Permanent allocation of parking in Hulhumale' subject to garage letter

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has announced that parking slots sold in the Hulhumale' parking building will be permanently available, provided that individuals submit a garage letter.

An agreement has been signed for the construction of 15 parking buildings in Hulhumale', providing 4,000 parking slots. The agreement was signed by Minister Ameen and Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Ameen highlighted that this project is a key initiative under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's plan to reduce road congestion in Male' City. He also emphasised that the project will offer a significant solution to the city's parking issues, with parking slots being sold on a permanent basis, provided that individuals submit a garage letter.

Meanwhile, Managing Director Fazul said that the construction of the 15 buildings will occur in two phases. He said that a contractor will be hired by the end of the year, with the goal of completing seven buildings in the first year. He said that the project will provide 3,920 car parking slots and 3,426 motorcycle parking slots. He noted that 90% of the slots will be sold via auction, while the remaining 10% will be reserved for visitor or short-term parking. He also said that there will be dedicated parking slots for individuals with disabilities.

Additionally, Fazul said that the buildings will be used for commercial purposes, powered by solar energy and featuring automated parking services. He also said that the project will include the establishment cafes, restaurants, businesses within the building, and a 24-hour surveillance system.

Furthermore, Fazul noted that the slot sales area will be developed as part of the parking project, funded through the proceeds from slot sales. He said that HDC will finance the commercial areas. He said that the pricing for the slots is still under discussion, but the goal is to make them affordable, with payment options available through banks. He also said that buyers will have the option to sell the slots commercially. The entire project is expected to be completed within two years.
