Maldives, China discuss importance of collaboration to address shared concerns

Maldives and China have held significant talks, which emphasised on the importance of collaboration to address mutual concerns. The discussions were held between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today.

During the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu underscored how much Maldives values the long-standing bilateral ties with China. The president shed light on the ongoing agreements and projects between the two nation. He further expressed sincere appreciation for China's steadfast support to the Maldives, particularly in the development of the tourism sector.

Meanwhile, Wang Yi reaffirmed China's commitment to continuing its support for the Maldives in all areas of cooperation. Both leaders underscored the crucial importance of sustained collaboration to address shared concerns, especially concerns related to climate change and adaptation efforts.

President Dr. Muizzu is currently in New York to attend the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, taking place at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ). The president is accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Maldives.
