Over 200 motorcycles removed from city streets: MCC

The Male' City Council (MCC) has revealed that over 200 motorcycles have been removed from the streets of Male' City. The government, in collaboration with relevant agencies, is working toward a comprehensive solution to enhance the safety of the streets of the capital city.

MCC has been clearing abandoned vehicles from the city in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works. As part of this effort, 224 motorcycles were towed during an operation on September 21. The city council aims to keep the city’s streets clean and orderly, focusing on road safety by removing old vehicles. The council has also said that these efforts will continue, with more initiatives planned to clear old vehicles from the roads.

The city council said that a significant number of old vehicles remain on the city’s streets, increasing parking issues and diminishing the beauty of the capital city. Earlier this year, the city council, in collaboration with the MPS and the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, carried out a similar operation. As such, more than 150 vehicles, including four-wheelers, were removed from the streets. To further address congestion, the government has also offered an option for individuals to destroy old vehicles registered under their names.
