Ministry of Islamic Affairs has trained imams from six atolls under the Imam Refresher Programme. The programme was launched on September 11. The ministry announced that a total of 272 imams from Noonu Atoll, Raa Atoll, Faafu Atoll, Dhaalu Atoll, Thaa Atoll and Laamu Atoll, have undertaken the programme and successfully completed it.
Under the Imam Refresher Programme, 429 imams have been trained. This includes the 272 imams which completed the training this month, 77 imams from Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, 40 from Fuvahmulah City and 40 from Vaavu Atoll. The ministry stated that nine subjects will be taught during the programme, including, Holy Quran, Tajweed, Tafsir, Fiqh, Hadith, and Aqidah and other essential skills.
Currently, there are approximately 700 imams in the Maldives. The ministry aims to complete the training for all permenant imams during this year.
