The Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has reached to 1.4 million up to this date. This is a 10.1% increase compared to the tourist arrival during the same period last year.
According to the ministry's daily updates, as of September 11, a total of 1,403,011 tourist arrivals were recorded, marking a notable increase compared to the 1,274,565 arrivals during the same period in 2023.
The report highlights that Chinese tourists comprise the largest group of arrivals in 2024, with 204,832 visitors. Chinese tourist arrivals constitutes to 14.6% of the total tourist arrivals. Following China, the leading source markets include Russia with 151,973 visitors, 120,609 arrivals from the United Kingdom, 103,256 from Italy and 99,113 from Germany.
On average, 3,982 tourists arrive to the Maldives daily, with the majority staying for a seven-day period. This steady influx has encouraged the government to set an ambitious target of attracting two million tourists by the end of the year. To achieve this target, Maldives now has to welcome 596,989 tourists. The government is working in collaboration with those involved in the tourism industry to promote the Maldives in several international platforms.
