Maldives and China hold high-level talks to strengthen military cooperation

The Maldives has held discussions with China to further enhance military ties during a meeting between Minister of Defence, Ghassan Maumoon, and China’s Minister of National Defence, Admiral Dong Jun. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, a high-profile gathering of military leaders from Asia-Pacific countries.

In a social media post, the Maldives’ Ministry of Defence confirmed that the talks centered on deepening military cooperation between the two nations. Maldives’ Ambassador to China, Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, was also present during the meeting.

Under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu the Maldives military has seen significant advancements, including the formation of the Air Corps and the introduction of the country’s first military drone. The President has pledged to further bolster the Maldives' security by adding additional drones, as well as sea, road, and air vehicles to the national defense arsenal.

These developments aim to enhance the Maldives’ ability to safeguard its territory and maintain maritime security.
