NDMA reports over USD 64,800 in losses due to adverse weather in August

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported that the adverse weather conditions in August caused damages to households amounting to over USD 64,800.

According to the Maldives Meteorological Service, the torrential downpours experienced last month are expected to continue until December. The heavy rainfall led to flooding in several islands, including Male' City, resulting in significant damage to numerous homes. The NDMA reported that 89 houses across ten islands were severely affected by the rainfall, which began on August 8 and persisted until the end of the month. The total estimated losses amount to USD 70,309.

The NDMA also highlighted its ongoing efforts to provide assistance to affected households in Hoarfushi, Uligan, Ihavandhoo, Kelaa, and Baarah in Haa Alif Atoll, Eydhafushi in Baa Atoll, and Hithadhoo and Feydhoo in Addu City.
