The Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the total number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives has reached to 1.35 million. The daily updates report released by the ministry indicates that this is a remarkable 10.5% increase compared to the tourist arrival during the same period last year. While a total of 1,359,208 tourists have visited the Maldives by the end of August, last year saw the arrival of 1,230,081 tourists.

The statistics shows that the tourists' arrival has continued to increase after experiencing a declining rate in the arrival. According to the report, the number of tourist arrivals each month was as follows: 192,385 in January, 217,392 in February, 194,227 in March, 168,366 in April, 119,875 in May, and 123,284 in June, 167528 in July and 176,151 in August.

Furthermore, the report highlights that Chinese tourists made up the largest portion of arrivals so far this year, with 198,704 visitors. Following China, the top sources of tourists included Russia with 147,185 visitors, the United Kingdom with 117,582 arrivals, Italy with 101,189 visitors, and Germany with 96,183 arrivals.

On average, 5,682 tourists arrive to the Maldives daily, with the majority staying for a seven-day period. The consistent influx of tourists has motivated the government to set an ambitious target of attracting two million tourists by the end of the year. This goal can be accomplished with the arrival of additional 636,691 tourists.
