Ministry of Health reveals that over 4,000 students have undergone Thalassemia screening, under the nationwide campaign conducted to increase public awareness on Thalassemia.

Providing insight on the number of students who went through the screening process, the Ministry of Health stated that a total of 4,004 students were screened for Thalassemia from January to this date. Additionally, awareness sessions were conducted across schools, which saw the participation of 124 parents and 198 students. The awareness programmes were also held for some ministries and administrative offices as well.

The national campaign, launched on February 4, aims to reduce the birth rate of children with Thalassemia by educating both students and parents about the condition. The students of Arabiyya School were the first students to partake in the nationwide programme. The first phase of the campaign was launched by the health ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Maldivian Blood Service (MBS).
