Vice President attends opening ceremony of Paris 2024 Olympics

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has attended the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. His visit was at the invitation of the French government and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

During the opening ceremony, Fathimath Dheema Ali and Ibadulla Adam had the honour of bearing the national flag. Vice President Latheef met with the Maldivian delegation participating in the Olympics on July 25, and is scheduled to attend their respective competitions. He also emphasised the government's commitment to sports development and encouraged the Maldivian athletes.

A total of five Maldivian athletes are participating in this year's Olympics, marking the highest number of Maldivian participants in Olympic history. The athletes include table tennis player Dheema, who qualified through a selection round, and Ibadulla, who has been training in Jamaica and will compete in athletics. Meanwhile, Fathimath Nabaha, the first Maldivian to participate in two consecutive Olympics, will compete in badminton, and Mohamed Aan Hussain and Aishath Ulya Shaaiq will compete in swimming.
