Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has stated that the victory of People's National Congress (PNC) in the local council by-elections demonstrates the growing support for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

In a social media post, Abdul Raheem congratulated President Dr. Muizzu and the PNC candidates on their election success. He also highlighted that the results clearly show increasing public support for the President.

The five candidates secured seats after competing against candidates from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). As such, Fathimath Shaufa Saleem, Fathimath Ishaan Ali and Ali Aiman secured the vacant seats in Male' City Council, Ibrahim Ahmed secured the vacant seat in Kulhudhuffushi City Council and Areeh Ismail was elected as the President of Bilehdhoo Island Council. Meanwhile, the seat allocated for the female member of Rasmaadhoo Island Council was won by an independent candidate.

In addition to the six vacant seats, the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) announced to hold by-elections for three other constituencies. However, elections were not held in those constituencies and were won by PNC candidates, as they were the only candidates to contest. As such, Mohamed Sunny was elected as President of Lhaviyani Atoll Council, Abdullah Samih was elected as a member of Hulhudhuffaaru Island Council and Fathimath Moosa was elected as a member of the Women's Development Committee (WDC) in Hinnavaru.

Following the presidential elections held last year, PNC has been accomplishing notable achievements in the following elections. As such, the party secured a super majority in the parliamentary elections as well. Additionally, PNC candidates have been securing seats in the by-elections.
