Eritrea's first Ambassador to the Maldives presents credentials

The first-ever Ambassador of the State of Eritrea to the Maldives Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam has presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. This event marks a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Woldemariam was ceremoniously escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a traditional “Haiykolhu” cultural procession, accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band. This vibrant display underscored the importance of the occasion and the warm welcome extended to the Ambassador.

Upon presenting his credentials, Ambassador Woldemariam was warmly welcomed by President Muizzu. The two leaders engaged in constructive discussions focusing on exploring trade and economic cooperation, as well as potential avenues for collaboration at the international level. This dialogue signals a promising start to the diplomatic relationship between the Maldives and Eritrea.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Eritrea were officially established on February 10, 2021. As the first Eritrean Ambassador accredited to the Maldives, Ambassador Woldemariam’s appointment is a significant step in fostering bilateral ties. Although he resides in New Delhi, India, his accreditation to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance their cooperation.

The Maldives and Eritrea look forward to deepening their friendship and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, reinforcing the foundation of their young but growing diplomatic relationship.
