Gov't urges holding Eid celebrations upholding Islamic values

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has urged all individuals to celebrate Eid al-Adha in accordance with Islamic principles, calling against the incorporation of foreign traditions. The remarks were made by the president on a post shared on social media.

In the post shared on social media, Minister Dr. Shaheem stated the Eid is a blessing bestowed by the Almighty Allah, underscoring the crucial importance of holding Eid celebrations such that it pleases the Almighty, hence upholding Islamic values. The minister also urged all individuals to celebrate Eid without mixing it with foreign and secular practices.

While Eid al-Adha is celebrated in different parts of the country annually, some celebrations organised which do not align with common social norms and Islamic principles surface through videos articulated on social media and complaints filed against such celebrations.

In response to such issues, the government has encouraged the celebration of Eid abiding Islamic principles and traditional activities. As such, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu urged all individuals to celebrate Eid al-Adha in accordance with Islamic principles, urging against the incorporation of foreign traditions, while conveying heartfelt felicitations to the residents and the entire Islamic Ummah, holding Eid celebrations.

This year, official Eid festivities were hosted in three islands across the nation, determined by the government. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage affirmed that the activities organised for Eid celebrations will be traditional.
