Maldives showcased to Japanese Travel Trade at JOTC Webinar

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has stated that the latest promotions and updates from the Maldives was showcased at the series of webinars hosted by the Japan Outbound Tourism Council (JOTC), a cell of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA).

MMPRC stated that the series of four webinars aimed to promote various travel destinations to the Japanese travel trade. The Maldives participated in the first session on May 30-31, to present the latest information and travel guidelines, and inspire travel professionals to expand their Maldivian product portfolio.

JOTC is tasked with strengthening the communication and cooperation of JATA with international organisations, travel and tourism ministries, and DMOs. The webinar series is one of its initiatives to achieve the goal. The webinar targeted approximately 300 travel professionals and trade media and participation was free of charge. The session was 25 minutes long and was held on Zoom.

The webinar series by JOTC provided a platform for the Maldives to share information alongside other destinations in this region, update travel professionals with the latest destination news, and generate positive media coverage. MMPRC aimed to maintain and strengthen its presence in the Japanese market, a crucial market for the Maldives tourism industry, as well as the presence of our trade partners. Highlighting the significance of the Japanese market and the success of the Maldives tourism sector were also key goals during this activity.

The arrival figures from Japan have been steadily increasing since the COVID-19 pandemic, and MMPRC is continuing to implement several strategies to fully capitalise on this positive upward trend. The strategies include outdoor advertising in major Japanese cities, social media campaigns in Japanese, utilising Japanese-speaking staff and guests in social media campaigns, promoting Maldives as a high-end destination, and focused advertising and promotion of various products and experiences. In line with these strategies, MMPRC will be participating in Tourism Expo Japan (TEJ) 2024, the leading travel expo in Japan, to showcase the Maldives’ offerings to potential travellers in this market.
