Minister expresses optimism on Thilamale' Bridge Speed

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, alongside Ambassador of India to the Maldives Munu Mahawar, recently conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Thilamale' bridge project. Following this inspection, Minister Muththalib addressed the media, expressing optimism about the project's accelerated progress.

During his interaction with reporters at the site, Minister Muththalib highlighted significant developmental updates to the Thilamale' bridge project. He emphasised his close collaboration with contractors to ensure the project's speedy completion, acknowledging the crucial support from the Indian administration and Ambassador Mahawar.

Ambassador Mahawar echoed Minister Muththalib's sentiments, underscoring the project's importance in revitalising the Maldives' economy. He further stressed the increased convenience the bridge will offer to residents of the Male' area and reiterated his commitment to collaborating closely with the Maldivian administration to expedite the project's completion.

Despite initial delays, the final completion date for the entire project has been rescheduled for September 30, 2026, with the connection from Male’ to Gulhifalhu expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.

Currently, preparations are underway for the construction of the bridge, with 1,220 pre-cast segments planned, of which 390 have already been completed, and 20 segments already launched.

The Thilamale' Bridge project, valued at over USD 454 million, stands as a testament to the strong bilateral ties between the Maldives and India. Spanning across 6.7 kilometers and connecting four areas, this project signifies a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity and infrastructure in the region.
