President condemns humiliating criminals

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the importance of upholding dignity and fairness in dealing with criminals, stating unequivocally that exploiting criminal acts to publicly shame individuals is unacceptable. These remarks were shared by the president on social media, reflecting his commitment to justice and compassion.

President Dr. Muizzu underscored the moral and social imperative to refrain from profiting or achieving any objective through the humiliation of others, particularly through the dissemination of videotaped incidents. He emphasised the need for specialised institutions dedicated to enforcing legal measures against offenders.

Additionally, he cautioned against the repercussions of individual actions that disregard religious, communal, and societal norms, warning of potential social discord and the exacerbation of existing issues.

The post comes amid viral videos that shame individuals for their misdeeds, as well as the growing trend of extrajudicial actions taken against criminals, bypassing legal protocols.
