Over 7,500 students begins O' Levels

The Ministry of Education has announced that over 7,500 students have commenced this year's O' Level examination.

The examination, spanning across 256 centres nationwide, includes both the IGCSE and SSC examinations, marking an increase of 803 students compared to last year. Among these students, 7,133 are undertaking the SCC examination. The initial week will focus on examinations in Dhivehi Language, Islam, and Arabic subjects, with the IGCSE examination scheduled to commence on May 2. This year's O' Level examination will conclude on June 13, including a total of 60 examination papers covering various subject streams.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has extended his best wishes to all students undertaking the O' Level examination. Notably, the government introduced significant changes to the examination regulations in December last year. The changes ensure that students participating in the O' Level examination must undertake the compulsory four subject examinations, namely Islam, Dhivehi, English, and Mathematics, with the government covering the examination fees for these subjects.

Under the new regulations, students are obligated to take the O' Level examinations, even if they do not pass the mock examination. Previously, students failing the mock examination in compulsory subjects were required to bear the examination costs themselves. The change aims to motivate more students to participate in the examination and strive for commendable results.

Students are now mandated to partake in five subjects, including four compulsory subjects. In addition, B.Tech students are required to study one additional subject alongside the compulsory ones.
