96% of polling stations start parliamentary election voting: ECM

The Election Commission (ECM) has announced that 96% of the country's polling stations have commenced voting for the parliamentary elections.

Speaking to PSM News, Member of ECM Hassan Zakariyya disclosed that voting has begun in 578 out of 602 polling stations across the Maldives. He confirmed the distribution of ballot boxes to residential islands, 34 resorts, prisons, industrial sites, and three foreign countries.

Additionally, Zakariyya said that although there were delays at some polling stations due to various reasons, the process has been remarkably peaceful since it started at 0800hrs on April 21. He also highlighted the importance of the public participating in the voting process at their earliest convenience.
