MWSC to complete 16 projects entrusted to other contractors

Managing Director of Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) Abdul Matheen Mohamed has revealed that efforts are underway to resume projects to establish utility systems in 16 islands. The projects were initially launched by the previous administration but came to a halt for various reasons.

During a programme aired on PSM News, Matheen highlighted the ongoing preparations required for the continuation of the projects. This includes holding discussions with the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, conducting surveys and monitoring the current stance of the project. Matheen further revealed that a proposal encompassing relevant information collected has also been submitted to the ministry.

Matheen disclosed that the majority of the projects were far from completion. He additionally stated that MWSC took the responsibility of completing such projects, including the establishment of water and electricity systems for 11 islands and the establishment of water systems in five islands. He affirmed that initiatives to establish these facilities will commence within this month.

The 11 islands in which MWSC undertook the responsibility of establishing utility systems are as follows: Fehendhoo, Fulhadhoo, Kihaadhoo, Kudarikilu, and Dhonfanu in Baa Atoll, Naalaafushi and Raimandhoo in Meemu Atoll, Magoodhoo in Noonu Atoll, Noomaraa and Bileffahi in Shaviyani Atoll and Kunahandhoo in Laamu Atoll. Meanwhile, the five islands in which water systems are to be established are as follows: Landhoo and Miladhoo in Noonu Atoll, Madifushi and Dhiyamigili in Thaa Atoll and Fenfushi in Alif Dhaalu Atoll.

Furthermore, Matheen also unveiled that efforts to expand the harbours of Gan from Laamu Atoll, Villingili from Gaafu Alif Atoll and Hithadhoo in Addu City.
