HDC acquires additional dredger to expedite land reclamation

Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has acquired an additional dredger to accelerate the land reclamation process for Hulhumale' Phase III.

The land reclamation project, which began on April 4, initially utilised dredgers with a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters of sand. HDC announced the addition of another dredger, the TS HD Prins De Netherlandans, to expedite the process. This new dredger has twice the capacity of the current ones, capable of handling 22,000 cubic meters of sand. HDC expects the project to progress rapidly with the utilisation of these two additional dredgers.

The project to reclaim 63 hectares of land for Hulhumale' Phase III will be completed in three main phases. The first phase involved reclaiming 10 hectares of land. Following its completion, the second phase, which encompasses 29 hectares, began on December 30, 2023. As of now, five out of the 29 hectares have been fully dredged. The third phase of the project involves dredging an additional 24 hectares.
