Hassan Zakariyya officially appointed as a member of ECM

Hassan Zakariyya has been appointed to fill the vacant Election Commissions (ECM) position. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Zakariyya in adherence to the Election Commission Act on April 15.

In a formal ceremony held at the president's office, Zakariyya took his oath of office before Justice Ali Rasheed of the Supreme Court of the Maldives, while concurrently receiving the official appointment documents from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions approved the appointment of Zakariyya, currently serving as the Secretary General at ECM, on April 1, following votes from 39 members respectively.

Furthermore, the position of ECM became vacant upon the conclusion of Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem's tenure as the Vice President of ECM on March 13.

The tenure for a member of the commission spans 5 years.
