Statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism indicates the arrival of more than 70,000 tourists solely from China.
The latest updated report reveals that Chinese tourists constitute the largest portion of total tourist arrivals so far this year, accounting for 10.9% of the overall figure, with 71,136 visitors up to April 9. Following China, Russia and the United Kingdom, along with Italy, stand out as the next highest sources of tourists, with 65,898 and 65,731 and 60,709 arrivals, respectively.
Furthermore, statistical figures reveal a significant increase in the number of tourist arrivals with a total of 650,404 visits so far. This is a 13.6% increase in comparison to the number of tourists visiting the nation last year within the same period. Last year during this period, 572,748 tourist arrivals were observed. On average, the Maldives welcomes approximately 6,265 tourists daily, with visitors spending an average of 8 days during their stay.
While the Maldives has already welcomed over six hundred thousand tourists, the government remains committed to achieving its target of attracting two million tourists. To achieve this goal, the government plans to initiate various advertising projects and programs aimed at promoting the Maldives as a premier tourist destination.
