TVM provides service to public for 46 years continually

Television Maldives (TVM), being the first TV channel of Maldives, celebrates its 46th anniversary today, maintaining its status as one of the most popular channels in the nation.

TVM began its services on March 29, 1978, facing numerous challenges due to the lack of technical facilities and human resources. Initially, its services were limited to Male' and an area within a 30km radius. One of its major hurdles was providing TV services comparable to those of foreign channels, given the shortage of individuals with expertise in the field and the need to import facilities and training from abroad.

Despite starting on a modest scale, TVM's inauguration marked a revolutionary change in the broadcasting industry, particularly in delivering the latest news and information. With only one control room, one studio, nine lights, two cameras, and eight staff members, the channel's employees passionately produced programs and news content.

Over nearly half a century, TVM's programmes, including Heyyambo, Filmee Udhares, and Hedhunu Hedhunaa, have remained popular among viewers. Special programs aired during the Holy month of Ramadan and coverage of elections, national festivals, and disasters have earned public appreciation.

Throughout its 46-year journey, TVM has evolved significantly, now using state-of-the-art equipment comparable to leading broadcasters worldwide. Despite fierce competition in Maldives' broadcasting field, TVM continues to produce engaging programs, maintaining its position as the nation's leading and most beloved TV channel.
