President’s Office to nominate long-serving officials to awards committee

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has directed the President's office to nominate state officials with more than 43 years of service to the National Awards Committee for review.

Criminal and debt records, along with employment history, of retired and current state officials will be forwarded for thorough evaluation by the committee. This decision aims to ease access to old records for retired officials, acknowledging potential difficulties in retrieving them otherwise. It also addresses challenges in accessing data from closed establishments where retired officials served.

Following this decision, individuals are not required to apply for the National Award for Public Service, as nominees will be selected by the National Awards Committee based on the forwarded records.

Last year, awards were bestowed upon retired officials and active personnel who had served for over 45 years. The President’s Office has announced that this year, due to the considerable number of individuals serving the state for more than 43 years, awards will be presented to eligible recipients. Moreover, plans are in place to nominate officials with 40-42 years of service to the National Awards Committee in the forthcoming years.

The National Award for Public Service will be presented during an official ceremony on Maldives Independence Day this year.
