Tourism minister pledges to expedite Maarendhoo resort project

Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal has announced that Maarendhoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, will soon become a resort following the completion of ongoing development efforts. During his visit to Gaafu Alif Atoll to oversee Maarendhoo's progress, Minister Faisal shared that the island was designated for development by a Chinese company in 2016, with significant progress until 2019 when it paused.

Minister Faisal emphasized the commitment to bring Maarendhoo into the tourism market within two years, echoing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge. He highlighted the Ministry's dedication to fulfilling this promise through various initiatives, including the establishment of a committee to oversee the process.

Assuring swift action, Minister Faisal mentioned discussions with contractors to expedite procedures, with readiness to adjust plans if necessary to prevent delays. He underscored the government's dedication to residents' prosperity within five years, with a focus on enhancing tourism revenue and promoting local tourism.

Furthermore, Minister Faisal encouraged parliamentary support to fulfill President Dr. Muizzu's commitments, expressing support for a candidate from the governing party in the upcoming elections.
