Tourist arrivals surpass half million mark

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that more than half a million tourists have visited the Maldives this year.

As per the latest daily update report issued by the tourism ministry, as of March 16, the total number of tourist arrivals reached 506,015, representing a 13.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when 445,625 tourists arrived.

February 2024 saw a record number of tourist arrivals, with more than 200,000 visitors to the Maldives during that month alone.

The breakdown of tourist arrivals by month is as follows:

In January - 192,385 tourist arrivals
In February - 217,394 tourist arrivals
From March 1-16 - 96,238 tourist arrivals

On average, around 6,015 tourists visit the Maldives each day, with an average stay of 8 days per visitor.

The majority of tourists visiting the Maldives are from China, accounting for 11.9% of total tourist arrivals so far this year. The top three countries with the highest number of tourists are China (60,243), Russia (51,376), and Italy (48,414).

In conclusion, while more than 500,000 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far, the government aims to achieve a record of bringing in 2 million tourists.
