Gov't to introduce allowance for thalassemia children from 2025

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government will begin providing allowances to thalassemia children starting from next year. The President made this statement while addressing a question from a member of the public during the "Raees ge Javaabu" series.

Wasma Yoosuf from Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll, inquired about three issues, including the allowance for thalassemia children. President Muizzu clarified that the allowance for thalassemia children was not included in this year's budget but intends to include it in next year's budget.

Furthermore, the President emphasised the establishment of therapy services for children with special needs in the atolls as a special priority in his manifesto. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to establish physiotherapy, psychiatry services, and additional therapies in hospitals for such children, acknowledging the need for specially trained personnel in this field.

Additionally, President Muizzu highlighted the importance of providing educational opportunities for children with special needs, outlining policies to establish Special Educational Needs (SEN) classes and provide specialized training to teachers caring for such children. He mentioned that efforts have already begun in this regard, with plans to establish facilities in schools to cater to the needs of these children.
