The Maldives has streamlined the process for obtaining permission to operate air ambulances to Sri Lanka, part of its commitment to swiftly respond to medical emergencies by sending patients abroad.
During discussions with the Sri Lankan government in January, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen negotiated a reduction in the time required to secure air ambulance permissions. Previously, this process took between 6 to 24 hours. However, following the talks, it was agreed that all necessary permits for air ambulance and emergency flight operations from the Maldives to Sri Lanka would be processed within a maximum of 2 hours. The arrangements have been finalised at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu places a high priority on ensuring quality healthcare for both Maldivians and Individuals living abroad. The initiative reflects a collaborative effort among relevant agencies, directed by the President, to expedite the transfer of patients overseas for urgent treatment.
The introduction and expansion of the air ambulance service align with a presidential commitment and are set to commence on March 1. President Dr. Muizzu envisions seamless patient transport within the Maldives and beyond. Additionally, the government aims to facilitate medical services for Maldivian citizens through partnerships with neighboring countries like Dubai and Thailand.
