Detoxification service begins at Dhaandhoo Health Centre

The Ministry of Homeland, Security, and Technology has announced the commencement of detoxification services at the health centre in Dhaandhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.

Minister Ali Ihusaan inaugurated the service, aimed at aiding individuals struggling with drug addiction. The detoxification service was launched at the Dhaandhoo Health Centre in collaboration with the National Drug Agency (NDA) and the Dhaandhoo Island Council.

Speaking with PSM News, Community Health Officer Saaiga Farooq highlighted the island's susceptibility to drug abuse and emphasised the significance of the newly launched service in providing local residents with access to treatment without the need to travel to Male' City. She also mentioned the increasing demand for the service from Dhaandhoo and neighboring islands, indicating plans for expansion and discussions with the NDA to facilitate more services.

The NDA is collaborating with island health centres to extend detoxification services across all islands in the Maldives, addressing the growing need for support in combating drug addiction at the community level.
