President says new hospital and airport in Dhidhdhoo will become reality

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to actualise the development of Dhidhdhoo Domestic Airport, a pledge made during his presidential campaign. The President conveyed this assurance during his ongoing visit to the northern region, where he addressed the residents of Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll.

Before engaging with the community, the President conducted meetings with the Ihavandhoo Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC). While addressing the public, the President acknowledged the various challenges facing the economy and emphasised the necessity for transformative changes within the country.

Highlighting the pivotal role of a robust transportation system in the development and economic progress of the Maldives, the President stated that building multiple airports is crucial despite facing criticism. He asserted that a well-functioning transportation infrastructure is indispensable for the nation's advancement. Presently, two foreign companies have been contracted by the government to develop international airports in the southern part of the Maldives, added president.

Furthermore, as part of the President's electoral commitment, plans include the development of a dedicated airport for domestic flights in Dhidhdhoo, with the President expressing his determination to materialise this project. Simultaneously, he disclosed intentions to implement a land reclamation project in Dhidhdhoo.

Addressing the pressing need for enhanced health services in the region, the President declared a major project to upgrade healthcare facilities as a top priority. This initiative encompasses the development of a new hospital equipped with modern amenities.

Acknowledging budgetary constraints in executing projects from the state budget, the President disclosed investments for such large-scale projects will be sought under contractor finance policy. Additionally, the President outlined plans to reclaim land, initiate a housing project, and establish sports facilities.

Dhidhdhoo is the atoll's capital, frequented by a significant number of individuals seeking services daily. Dhidhdhoo's population exceeds 3,000 residents.
